Residents are rightly concerned about crime in Earl's Court, and I have been campaigning to ensure that the police focuses on this area as a matter of priority.
Following the Councillor Call for Action on Earl's Court Anti-Social Behaviour in 2022, the police ran 4 weeks of additional focus in the area and subsequently RBKC followed this with a further 4 weeks of focus as part of the Earl's Court Action Plan.
In January 2023, I chaired a meeting with the police, RBKC leadership and local representatives where residents could ask the questions that mattered to them. It was good to hear feedback on the police and council's work so far, particularly on Operation Nightingale, anti-social behaviour, drug users and the Earl's Court Action Plan.
While the local Lib Dems wanted to introduce drug-safe rooms to allow users to shoot drugs right there in Earl's Court, I've been working closely with the local Conservatives on a long-term plan to make Earl's Court safer.
That's why we've secured an additional police constable for the ward thanks to additional funding from central Government and now the council is moving forward with a Conservative-led Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) proposal with a six-week consultation set to begin in January 2024.
The PSPO will give the police a broad range of powers and tools to help tackle anti-social behaviour locally. We encourage residents to respond to the consultation in the New Year and hope to see the order in operation in the Spring.
