As the risk of escalation in Gaza continues, I am very concerned by the possibility of an offensive by the IDF in Rafah.
Last Friday, there was a vote on a US Resolution in the UN on the conflict.
The UK voted yes on the need for an immediate and sustained ceasefire to protect civilians, allow humanitarian aid in and alleviate suffering.
The UK also voted yes on the call for international humanitarian law to be upheld, for the release of hostages, to rejected forced displacement and to urge against a ground offensive into Rafah.
Disappointingly, Russia and China vetoed the Resolution.
On Monday The UN Security Council passed a resolution with the support of the UK demanding an immediate ceasefire for the month of Ramadan, the immediate and unconditional release of hostages and "the urgent need to expand the flow" of aid into Gaza. There were 14 votes in favour with the United States abstaining.
